The Neem plant is an easily available plant. Neem is a valuable and extensive beneficial plant which is used since thousands of years for treatment. This is a valuable natural, ayurvedic medicinal plant as a source of organic pesticide. Neem is native from Indian subcontinent, as we know it grows in dry areas throughout south Asia, some parts of Africa, and some south and central America.

Latin name – Azadirachta Indica
Family name –meliaceae
Chemical compound – Nimbin (Sulphur free crystalline)
Nimbidin (cream-colored containing amorphous Sulphur)
This nimbidin is the main anti-bacterial ingredient which is present in neem seed oil.

Ras (Taste)– Bitter (tikta) and astringent (kashay)
Virya (Potency) – shit (cold)
Vipak (After digestion)– pungent
Guna (Quality) – laghu (light) and ruksha (dry)

Uses Of Neem Plant
- Dried Neem leaves place in cupboard to prevent insects eating the clothes, and also in tines of rice is stored for longer duration.
- Anti – viral:– Neem leaves possessed antiviral activity.
- Anti – fungal :- Neem leaves and extract of leaves are anti fungal for all types of skin, nails, hair disorder and also for animals
- Anti – helminthic:- Neem was tested acting nicely on intestinal worms.
- Anti – diabetic :- Neem root, bark extract is very useful to reduce the blood sugar level.
- Anti-fertility :- May work as contraceptive Neem oil is spermicide.It kills the sperms.
- Sedative:- reduce anxiety, and physical stress acting as a sedatives.

- Cures skin problems:- like eczema, psoriasis, body itching.
- Natural blood purifier.
- Oral hygiene and the gum issue problem :- Neem twig is bitter in taste because of this quality useful in gum issues. Neem twig are also useful as a toothbrush

- Pregnancy and breast-feeding mothers.
- Male with infertility issues
- Skin allergies
- Low blood pressure
- Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level)
Association with Hindu Festival
Neem leaf and bark is considering an effective pitta pacifier because of its bitter taste; hence it is traditionally recommended during early summer in Ayurveda (month of march – April which is Chaitra as per Hindu calendar)
This celebration we called Chaitra – padwa (Gudhi Padwa) which is the new year in the state of Maharashtra.On this festival neem juice or paste is useful to eat and drink as it pacifies pitta and to avoid the negative side effect of the seasons. it is also beneficial while bathing as it reduces the skin issues and acts as an anti-bacterial medicine.
